A Princess Mediterranean cruise in 2027 means one of three ships, Sun Princess, Enchanted Princess or Sky Princess, on one of 51 itineraries with more than 136 departures, from 7-night round trips out of Rome and Barcelona to a 46-night grand voyage from Southampton. Week-long fares listed in September 2026 started at $1,048 per person, taxes included, and crew appreciation adds $18 a night.
Princess offers more Mediterranean choice than almost any other line, which is its strength and its problem: the choice is hard to see. Its own Mediterranean page talks about homeports and destinations but not about which ship does what, and the itineraries are named in ways that hide how they fit together. This guide lays it out ship by ship, with dated fares per night, the simple pattern behind the long voyages, the arithmetic on the Princess Plus and Premier packages, and the two sailings built around the total solar eclipse of 2 August 2027. For how Princess compares with Celebrity, Norwegian, Royal Caribbean and the rest, see our guide to the best Mediterranean cruise lines; this page is the deep dive on Princess.

Princess Mediterranean cruise ships and homeports for 2027
Princess announced its 2027 Europe season on 4 June 2025: more than 200 sailings in all, with the Mediterranean share on three ships. Sun Princess and Enchanted Princess sail “7- to 42-day voyages across the region” from Athens, Barcelona, Civitavecchia, Istanbul and Trieste, and Sky Princess sails from Southampton. Here is how the three differ.
| Ship | Class and year | 2027 Mediterranean pattern | Lowest fare seen |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sun Princess | Sphere class, 2024 | 7-night Western Mediterranean round trips from Barcelona; longer voyages from Athens and Rome in autumn; Caribbean in winter | $1,350 (7 nights from Barcelona) |
| Enchanted Princess | Royal class, 2020 | 7- to 14-night voyages from Civitavecchia, Trieste and Piraeus, May to November, plus 21- to 42-night “Best of the Mediterranean” voyages; Caribbean in winter | $1,048 (7 nights from Civitavecchia) |
| Sky Princess | Royal class, 2019 | From Southampton: the eclipse voyage, the 31-night Mediterranean Marvel and a 46-night grand voyage | $3,714 (14-night eclipse voyage) |
Sun Princess: the newest and largest
Sun Princess, which entered service in 2024, is the first of Princess’s Sphere class, the largest ships the line has built; its sister Star Princess followed in October 2025. You can recognize the class by the glass dome over the top decks. In the Mediterranean, it sails 7-night round trips from Barcelona calling at Ibiza, Marseille, Ajaccio in Corsica and Genoa, listed from $1,350 per person for departures between October 2026 and October 2027, about $193 a night, and it spends the winter in the Caribbean. Princess prices its packages slightly higher on the Sphere-class ships, which tells you where it sees the demand. If you want the newest Princess in the Mediterranean, this is the ship; if you want the most itinerary for the money, look at Enchanted Princess.
Enchanted Princess: the Mediterranean workhorse
Enchanted Princess, a Royal-class ship from 2020, carries most of Princess’s Mediterranean program. From Civitavecchia it alternates two 7-night routes: a “Mediterranean & Aegean” week to Salerno, Santorini, Kuşadası and Katakolon, from $1,048, and a “Mediterranean & Adriatic” week to Corfu, Dubrovnik, Kotor and Naples, from $1,119. From Trieste it sails 11-night voyages to Split, Kotor, Corfu and the Greek coast, from $1,627, and it adds 10- and 11-night voyages from Civitavecchia and Piraeus and the long “Best of the Mediterranean” voyages described below. It is the ship with the most choice, and at about $150 to $160 a night on the 7-night weeks, the best value in the Princess Mediterranean program.

Sky Princess: the Mediterranean from Southampton
Sky Princess, a Royal-class ship from 2019, is based in Southampton for 2027, and its Mediterranean voyages are the long kind: the 14-night eclipse voyage on 24 July 2027 by way of Vigo, Barcelona, Toulon and Cartagena, from $3,714; the 31-night “Mediterranean Marvel” on 25 September 2027, which Princess says explores Spain, France, Italy, Turkey, Greece and Malta, from $5,107; and a 46-night “Ultimate Mediterranean Grand Adventure” on the same date, from $9,772. For British travelers who would rather not fly, these are the Princess Mediterranean voyages that reach the eastern end of the sea; our guide to Mediterranean cruises from Southampton explains why anything shorter barely gets past Spain.

Trieste, Istanbul and the other homeports
Princess’s six homeports each shape the trip differently.
- Civitavecchia (Rome). Enchanted Princess‘s main base. The port is 46 miles (74 km) from Rome, and trains take between about 45 minutes and an hour and 20 minutes depending on the service. Princess sells airport-to-ship transfers even to guests who did not book flights through it, which is worth considering here.
- Barcelona. Sun Princess‘s base. Seven cruise terminals across the Moll Adossat and the World Trade Center; the official fixed taxi fare from the airport to the Moll Adossat is €46 (about $52).
- Piraeus (Athens). The cruise terminals are about 30 miles (50 km) from the airport, outside the taxi flat-fare zone, so expect a metered €50–€70; the airport metro costs €9.
- Trieste. Princess sells it “for Venice”, but it is a separate city at the head of the Adriatic, with its own grand waterfront and cafe culture, and a long transfer from Venice. Large ships have been barred from Venice’s Giudecca Canal since August 2021, which is why the Adriatic programs of most lines now start in Trieste or Ravenna. Our Adriatic cruise ports guide covers the region.
- Istanbul. Princess’s announcement lists it as a 2027 homeport, but none of the departures in the September 2026 listings we checked started there, and trade reports have said Princess dropped Istanbul from some 2027 sailings. If Istanbul matters to you, confirm it with Princess before booking.
- Southampton. Sky Princess‘s base, for the long Mediterranean voyages and the eclipse.

What is the Princess Mediterranean cruise schedule for 2027?
Princess’s European season runs from February to November 2027, and the Mediterranean departures we could price run from May to November: 7-night round trips from Civitavecchia and Barcelona, 10- and 11-night voyages from Rome, Trieste and Athens, 14-night combinations, and 21- to 46-night grand voyages. The eclipse sailings leave on 24 July 2027.

Two 7-night routes that add up to a 14-night voyage
Look at Enchanted Princess‘s Rome program and a pattern appears. The first five ports on the 14-night “Mediterranean, Aegean & Adriatic” listing are exactly the Adriatic week’s, and the five that follow match the Aegean week: in other words, the 14-night voyage is the two 7-night routes sailed back to back. Priced separately on their lead-in fares, the two weeks come to $2,167; the 14-night voyage was listed from $2,039, $128 less. Lead-in fares come from whichever dates are cheapest, so treat the comparison as a guide rather than a quote, but it is a rare case where the long voyage is both simpler and cheaper.
The same building blocks explain the “Best of the Mediterranean” voyages of 21, 31, 32 and 42 nights, which string together Enchanted Princess‘s routes from Rome, Trieste and Athens. Per night, they are some of the cheapest ways to spend time in the Mediterranean with Princess, from about $143 to $185 depending on the voyage and date, and they take in Croatia, Greece, Malta, Sardinia and the Italian coast in a single booking. Nobody should take a 42-night cruise because it is cheap per night, but if you have the time, the value is real.

Which Princess Mediterranean cruise is best?
For a first Mediterranean cruise, Enchanted Princess‘s 7-night Aegean week from Rome, with Santorini, Ephesus and Olympia, or its 14-night voyage for both the Greek and Adriatic weeks. For the newest ship, Sun Princess from Barcelona. For Croatia, the 11-night voyages from Trieste. For time and value, the long “Best of the Mediterranean” voyages.
Those picks rest on the published routes and prices rather than on having sailed each voyage. By type of trip:
- Greece and Turkey in a week. Enchanted Princess‘s Mediterranean & Aegean week from Civitavecchia: Salerno for the Amalfi Coast, Santorini, Kuşadası for Ephesus and Katakolon for Olympia, from $1,048.
- Croatia and Montenegro. The Adriatic week from Civitavecchia, for Corfu, Dubrovnik, Kotor and Naples, or the 11-night voyages from Trieste if you want more of the coast.
- Two weeks, one booking. The 14-night Mediterranean, Aegean & Adriatic from Civitavecchia, which combines the two weeks for less.
- France, Corsica and the Italian Riviera. Sun Princess‘s week from Barcelona, via Ibiza, Marseille, Ajaccio and Genoa, on the newest ship in the fleet.
- A month or more. Enchanted Princess‘s Best of the Mediterranean voyages from Rome or Trieste, or Sky Princess‘s Mediterranean Marvel from Southampton if you would rather not fly.
The Aegean week from Rome, port by port
Enchanted Princess‘s cheapest week is also its most varied, and each of its four ports needs a different plan. Here is what each involves, using the port data we keep for our port guides.
| Port | Dock or tender | Getting to the sight, as of September 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Salerno | Berths on the town waterfront | The old town is on foot; the Amalfi Coast is reached by ferries along the coast or by a ship’s tour |
| Santorini | Always a tender, because ships anchor in the caldera | Cable car up to Fira €10 (about $11) each way for adults; cruise visitors are capped at 8,000 a day; Greece’s €20 landing fee applies June to September |
| Kuşadası | Docks at Ege Port, next to the town | Ephesus is 11 miles (18 km) away, 20 to 25 minutes by road; taxi and minibus fares are not published, so agree the price before you set off |
| Katakolon | Docks at the pier | Ancient Olympia is 21 miles (34 km) away; the train costs €10 return, takes about 45 minutes, and runs about three times a day on a timetable set each morning to suit the ships; the station is about 200 yards from the port gate |
The two days that go wrong are Santorini and Katakolon. At Santorini the constraint is the queue for the cable car down, not the sights, so start back to the Old Port earlier than feels necessary, and remember that tender calls are the first to be cancelled when the summer meltemi wind blows. At Katakolon the train is cheap and easy, but with only three services a day, missing the return train means a taxi or a very short visit; take the first train after the gangway opens and come back on the one that leaves you an hour or more before all aboard, the time by which every passenger must be back on the ship.

How much does a Princess Mediterranean cruise cost?
From about $1,048 to $1,350 per person for a 7-night Mediterranean week on fares listed in September 2026, taxes included, or about $150 to $193 a night, and from about $146 a night on the longer voyages. Add crew appreciation of $18 per person per night, plus drinks, Wi-Fi and excursions or a Plus or Premier package.
Three things move the price. The ship: Sun Princess, the newest, costs about $30 to $40 more a night than Enchanted Princess on a comparable week. The date: each “from” fare is the cheapest remaining departure on its route, and on mainstream lines, spring sailings of the same itinerary have been found to undercut summer ones by up to about $60 per person per night. And promotions: Princess’s offers are frequent and generous, and the listings we checked carried “up to 40% off, up to $300 instant savings and free third and fourth guests”. Princess’s own advice is to book six to 12 months ahead for Europe, and lines have been documented raising brochure rates before discounting them, so compare the price you are offered with what you saw months earlier rather than with the advertised saving.
Crew appreciation and the other extras
- Crew appreciation. Princess’s name for gratuities: $18 per person per day in inside, ocean-view and balcony staterooms, $19 in mini-suites, cabanas and the Reserve Collection, and $20 in suites, according to its crew appreciation policy. A couple in a balcony stateroom pays $252 on a 7-night voyage. It is included automatically if you buy Plus or Premier.
- Drinks and Wi-Fi. Bought separately or through the packages below.
- Destination fees. Greece’s cruise passenger fee is billed for each port where you go ashore: €20 (about $23) at Santorini and Mykonos and €5 elsewhere from June to September, falling to €12 and €3 in April, May and October.
- Excursions. Princess’s tours at Civitavecchia, Salerno and Naples are where a week gets expensive; our Mediterranean cruise cost guide compares ship tours with going independently.
Is Princess Plus or Premier worth it on a Mediterranean cruise?
Plus usually is, if you drink and want Wi-Fi, because it includes the $18 daily crew appreciation you would pay anyway: for 2026 voyages it costs $65 a day, so the drinks, Wi-Fi and extras cost you about $47. Premier, at $100 a day, pays off mainly if you would use its excursion credit and unlimited specialty dining.
Here is what each includes, from Princess’s own package pages, for 2026 voyages:
| Princess Plus | Princess Premier | |
|---|---|---|
| Price per person per day, booked before sailing | $65; $70 on Sun and Star Princess | $100; $105 on Sun and Star Princess |
| Drinks | Cocktails, wine by the glass, beer, spirits, coffee and soft drinks up to $15 each | The same up to $20 each, with no daily limit |
| Wi-Fi | One device per guest | Four devices per guest |
| Dining | A set number of casual dining meals | Unlimited casual and specialty dining |
| Shore excursions | — | Credit of $100 on 6- to 9-day voyages, $200 on 10 to 20 days, $300 on 21 days or more |
| Crew appreciation | Included | Included |
The arithmetic that matters: both packages include crew appreciation, which on a standard stateroom is $18 a day. Subtract it, and Plus costs about $47 a day for drinks, Wi-Fi and the extras, and Premier about $82. On a port-intensive Mediterranean week, where you are ashore most of the day, $47 buys a few drinks at dinner and in the evening plus Wi-Fi, which is close to break-even for moderate drinkers. Premier is harder to justify on a 7-night voyage, where the excursion credit is $100, but on a 10- to 20-day voyage its $200 credit and unlimited specialty dining change the sums. The prices quoted are Princess’s pre-cruise rates, so if you are undecided, check the on-board rate before assuming it will be the same.
Princess’s 2027 solar eclipse cruises
On 2 August 2027 a total solar eclipse crosses southern Spain and North Africa, and Princess has built two 14-day voyages around it, both leaving on 24 July 2027. Enchanted Princess sails round trip from Civitavecchia by way of Livorno, Genoa, Marseille and Barcelona, and Sky Princess round trip from Southampton by way of Vigo, Barcelona, Toulon and Cartagena. Princess says guests will see the eclipse “while enjoying a day at sea filled with special eclipse-themed programming”.
| Eclipse voyage | Fare from | Per night | Same ship, ordinary voyage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Enchanted Princess, 14 nights from Civitavecchia, 24 July 2027 | $4,410 | About $315 | About $146 a night on its 14-night Rome voyage |
| Sky Princess, 14 nights from Southampton, 24 July 2027 | $3,714 | About $265 | About $165 a night on its 31-night Mediterranean Marvel |
The eclipse roughly doubles the nightly rate on Enchanted Princess. Other lines have eclipse sailings too, including Celebrity and Carnival; our pick of the best Mediterranean cruises compares them, and our guide to Celebrity’s Mediterranean program prices its two eclipse voyages. If totality from the deck of a ship is the goal, the premium buys a unique day; if you simply want an August Mediterranean cruise, choose another week.

What should you know before a Princess Mediterranean cruise?
Check your homeport’s logistics, especially Civitavecchia and Trieste, which are not the cities they are sold as; budget crew appreciation at $18 a night; carry a passport valid well beyond the cruise; and confirm any Istanbul departure with Princess, since the 2027 listings we checked showed none.
Getting to the ship
Princess offers three ways to take the stress out of embarkation, according to its Mediterranean page: EZair flights, which it says come with protection if a flight is late or cancelled, in the markets where EZair is sold; an airport-to-ship transfer, available even if you did not book your flights through Princess; and Cruise Plus Hotel packages that add a hotel night with transfers either side. On a Rome sailing, where Civitavecchia is 46 miles from the city and the airport, a transfer package can be worth its price. Whatever you choose, land at least a day before sailing: the EU’s Entry/Exit System has taken fingerprints and a photo from non-EU travelers at their first Schengen entry since 10 April 2026, and airport queues have been long. Our guide to Mediterranean cruise embarkation ports covers each homeport in detail.
Passports, children and money
- Passports. The Schengen area needs a passport issued within the last 10 years and valid at least three months beyond your departure from Europe; most lines ask for six months after the cruise, which is the safer standard. ETIAS, a €20 travel authorization for visa-exempt visitors, is due to start in the last quarter of 2026. For Turkey, on the Aegean routes, US, Canadian and British citizens are visa-free. Our Mediterranean cruise travel documents guide has the full picture.
- Children. Princess runs a youth program for ages 3 to 17 in three age groups, and its listings carried “free third and fourth guest” offers, which make a family stateroom much cheaper. Our guide to a Mediterranean cruise with kids covers which ports work with children.
- Money. Your onboard account is in US dollars. Ashore, pay in euros whenever a card machine offers to charge you in dollars.
- Power strips. Surge-protected power strips are banned on every major line, Princess included; bring individual plug adapters for the countries you visit.
The Naples and Salerno days
Most Enchanted Princess weeks from Rome call at either Naples or Salerno, and they are the days most worth planning. From Naples, Pompeii is 15 miles (24 km) away by the Circumvesuviana train, and since January 2026 its tickets are named and timed, from €20 (about $23) for the basic entry, with a daily limit of 20,000 visitors. Salerno is the gateway to the Amalfi Coast, with ferries running along the coast to Amalfi and Positano. In summer, book Pompeii’s morning slot early; it holds most of the daily capacity.

Princess compared with Celebrity, Norwegian and Viking
Princess sits in the traditional middle of the market: bigger ships and broader itineraries than the premium lines, more polish than the value lines. On the points that matter in the Mediterranean:
| Princess | Celebrity | Norwegian | Viking | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Style | Traditional, broad itineraries, long voyages | Premium, modern design, food and wine | Big ships, long port days, one-way voyages | Small, quiet, adults only, one tour per port included |
| Gratuity per night | $18 ($19–$20 suites) | $19.50 from 29 July 2026 | $20 ($25 suites) | $20 on US bookings |
| Cheapest 7-night Med fare seen | $1,048 (Enchanted) | $935 (Constellation) | $979 (Sun and Dawn) | $2,599 (8 days, Barcelona to Rome) |
| Package | Plus from $65 a day, crew appreciation included | All Included: drinks and Wi-Fi, gratuities extra | Free at Sea perks at booking | Wine with meals, Wi-Fi and a tour per port in the fare |
| 2027 hallmark | 136+ Mediterranean departures on 51 itineraries; eclipse voyages | Xcel leads seven ships | Over 90% of time in port | 43 itineraries, many with overnights |
Our view: Princess is the line to choose when the itinerary comes first, especially if you want Greece and the Adriatic from Rome in one booking, or more than two weeks at sea at a reasonable price per night. If you would rather have more time in each port and one-way routes, compare Norwegian’s Mediterranean program; if you want a quieter, all-adult ship with tours built in, compare Viking in the Mediterranean.
As for Princess Mediterranean reviews, member reviews on sites such as Cruise Critic are the place to read about particular ships and sailings, and we don’t reproduce star ratings we cannot check. The most detailed recent trip report among the top search results, a 2025 travel blog’s account of a Greece, Turkey, Malta and Italy voyage on Majestic Princess from Athens, walks through each port and closes with practical cautions, which is a fair sign of how port-focused a Princess Mediterranean week is.

How we researched this guide
The program, ships, homeports and eclipse voyages come from Princess’s 2027 Europe season announcement of 4 June 2025; package contents and prices from its Plus & Premier page; crew appreciation from its crew appreciation policy; and booking advice, transfers and EZair from its Mediterranean cruises page, all checked on 26 September 2026. Departures and fares for each ship come from The Cruise Web’s published listings on the same date, which quote per-person fares including taxes and fees. Port logistics, fees and entry rules come from port authorities, transport operators and official sources, via our port and documents guides.
We are an independent editorial site, not a cruise line or travel agent, and Princess has no say in what we write. We have not sailed these ships and do not claim to have; the recommendations are our editorial judgment from the published itineraries and fares, and you are free to weigh them differently. What we could not verify: full port lists where the listings show only the first few ports, Sun Princess‘s full 2027 Mediterranean schedule, whether any 2027 voyage will start in Istanbul, and 2027 package prices. We recheck this page whenever Princess announces its next European season.
